Born Bologna c1560, Died Rome 1609. Probably the most gifted member of the Carracci family of artists. His fame rests on the decoration of the Farnese Gallery in Rome. He studied in Parma and Venice and admired the work of Correggio and Titian. He worked for 10 years in Rome from the age of 35 and his work is characterised by economical figurative compositions painted precisely with clear reference back to the High Renaissance.
