Antonio Joli first studied in Modena but in 1735 he visited Venice where he saw the paintings of Canaletto. He travelled widely making a living as a view painter. After he eventually settled in Naples he became court painter to Charles VII, painting many scenes of court life. Here the Royal procession along the coast of Naples can be seen as an historical insight into 18thCentury life.
