Born Genoa 1609, Died Mantua 1664. A painter, etcher and draughtsman from Genoa. His style of painting owed something to Rubens, Van Dyck and Bernardo Strozzi, all of who worked in Genoa, while Rembrandt heavily influenced his etchings. He painted religious themes in Baroque style with emphasis on the elements of Still Life and Genre. He was also interested in magic and metamorphosis, the inevitability of death and the search for truth.
