Excavated in west Java, Indonesia, this figure depicts a standing man wearing a loincloth, headcloth and prominent jewellery. While very little textile evidence survives from Bronze Age Southeast Asia, the antiquity of certain forms of clothing is demonstrated in the attire depicted on anthropomorphic images in metal. Among the most enduring garments is the loincloth, a long rectangular strip of fabric that continued to be worn by men in central Vietnam, eastern Indonesia and the northern Philippines well into the 20th century.
