The Perth artist Edith Trethowan produced a group of wood-engravings in the 1930s. She learnt the technique from fellow Western Australian artist Beatrice Darbyshire. As well as making closely observed studies of the Perth landscape, Trethowan introduced a personal nuance in works such as View from the back door.
