Organised group tours

The Gallery offers a range of tours, talks and lectures covering a many topics relating to the Gallery's collections and exhibitions including art and design history, architecture, literature and history.

The special tours and lectures related to exhibitions are aimed at a various audiences – check the listing below or go to What's On for more information.

The Gallery also conducts scheduled guided tours of the permanent collection and major exhibitions that do not require bookings.

K-12 School and tertiary groups

Schools and tertiary institutions can book groups into the Gallery from 10.00 am (AEST) weekdays. A minimum of one supervising adult to 15–20 students is required for school group tours, with the ratio of one adult to six children in early childhood tours. Entry is free to the collection and to special exhibitions for booked groups and students aged 16 and under.

Special access tours

Special access tours are provided for groups with special needs and abilities. The Gallery provides a range of services, facilities and programs to enable visitors with special needs to access the national collection. Email access@nga.gov.au or phone +61 2 6240 6432.

Art & Alzheimer's program tours

The Art and Alzheimer's Program is a discussion based tour of works of art provides intellectual stimulation and social inclusion to those living with dementia. Free.

Special interest tours

Special interest tours are provided for community groups, clubs and societies, conferences and VIPs.

Self-guided tours

We welcome self-guided tours however please book your visit and note that teachers must remain with groups at all times. Larger groups of students must split into groups of no more than 15 students accompanied by one adult.

Multilingual tours

Tours in languages other than English and guided tours may be arranged.
