Stephen Procter came to Australia in 1992 as Head of Glass Studies at the Canberra School of Art, where he remained until his death in 2001..
The work in this exhibition is one of his larger scale sculptural compositions, conceived within a strict repertoire of abstract and geometric volumes. Proctor's facility with cutting and engraving is evident in the impeccably ground and polished surfaces of Double gatherer.
His mature works deal with pod-like forms poised in a state of delicate inter-relationship and equilibrium. The 'harmonic' passage of light through these forms is the artist's central concern.
