William Bernstein is one of a group of American glass artists whose work in the 1970s demonstrated a looser approach to glassblowing, introducing humour and cartoon-like imagery into their work. His technique of 'sketching' with molten glass on to blown forms allows him to build a fluid narrative into the work, in this case, a humorous allusion to the association of bears and honey in the distorted form of a domestic glass honey jar.
