Born Verona 1528, Died Venice 1588. With Titian and Tintoretto he made up the triumvirate of great painters of the late Renaissance in Venice. He is known as a superb colourist and for his illusional decorations in both fresco and oil. His large paintings of biblical feasts, which he made for monasteries of Venice and Verona, are especially celebrated.
