Born Brescia c1498, Died Brescia 1554. He was one of the most distinguished 16th century painters from Brescia. Influenced by the realism of Lombardy art and the light and colour of Venetian painters, Moretto created a sombre and direct style, which reflected his interest in Roman Catholic reform.
