Born Bassano del Grappa 1510, Died Bassano del Grappa 1592. Jacopo Bassano, along with Tintoretto and Veronese, was one of the leading Venetian artists of the 16th century. He came to Venice from a small town in northern Italy in 1533 where he worked with Veronese, Lotto and Titian. He treated biblical themes in a rustic manner where the figures were genuine country types and the animals were carefully observed.
