Born Florence 1486, died Florence 1530. He was the leading painter in Florence in the early years of the 16th century. Under the influence of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael he perfected the classical style of the High Renaissance. He painted mainly religious works, however his portraits were distinguished by a dreamy, poetic quality making them the most individual of the High Renaissance.
