"Aboriginality means a great deal to me. Regardless of how things have changed, physically, structurally, materially, I value tradition, laws and discipline. I put a great deal of emphasis on that in my life. I witnessed the respect that the old people gave to one another: it was very rude to cross in front of someone’s path, or drink out of their mug, or take things that belong to them without asking. All of this had something behind it and I wanted to know more about it. Although our society was destroyed, they never took away our spirit - it still lives on in a lot of us and it’s the spiritual that means more to me about my Aboriginality than the physical sense."
