Previous Page Parent Page Next Page "Two hundred years of white history, white tyranny, white development has elapsed in a torturously slow way for us. Yet in terms of our cultural existence it is a very brief time indeed. Not so brief, however that we cannot begin to hope that the new and young society can attempt the task of developing a relationship with us, based on sharing compassion, understanding and spiritual personality that has pervaded this land, our culture and every aspect of our lives since the Beginning of Time.

In this year, 1988, there is the potential to lay the foundation for a wholesome relationship, between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australia based on justice, peace, caring and compassion. In any individual and national relationship there can be no reconciliation without justice. There can be no national spirit without justice, for after all, justice and peace, caring compassion and reconciliation have as the very fabric of their foundation the greatest of all human qualities - integrity. Justice is not in itself a fortuitous thing. It does not happen by chance or whim. Its mainspring, its very essence, is integrity." (Kevin Gilbert 1988)
