The scale of Kevin Gilbert’s mural-sized prints is deliberately confronting; escape from or denial of these issues is simply not a case of averting one’s gaze. The camera is a means to an end for Gilbert: in emphasising content over aesthetics the artist employs this tool to emphasise the debates surrounding Aboriginal rights and sovereignty.
