The photographs of Destiny Deacon engage the viewer through the use of the familiar codes of mass media, disguising, initially at least, the ‘twist’ contained within their explorations of race, sexuality and gender. In this group of images Deacon toys with the notion of ‘the exotic’, squarely positioning this Island maiden in a lighthearted contemporary scene in which she plays up to the camera and is totally in control. |
