Artist: CHRISTO Birth/Death: 1935 Title: Wrapped coast, one million square feet, Little Bay, Australia Credit Line: Gift of John Kaldor, 1982. National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s Wrapped coast, Little Bay, 1969 was a turning point for 20th-century Australian art. Many Australian artists and students volunteered to assist them, introducing the radical idea that a work of art could be a collaborative project. Wrapped coast shifted attention from the gallery to the outside world, giving avant-garde art a more prominent media profile. More details Click image to enlarge |
