Advances in the design and construction of commercial packaging created a source of reliable and standardised materials, such as tin cans and machined timber boxes and crates. Closeted in backyard sheds, sleep-outs and sewing rooms, men and women from all levels of society found pleasure and satisfaction in the recycling of materials left over from more affluent times.
