Theme: The Land Artist: Merric BOYD Birth/Death: 1888–1959 Title: Vase Credit Line: National Gallery of Australia, Canberra The pioneer studio potter, Merric Boyd, set a new direction for Australian ceramics in the 1910s. Working with clay, a material that is nature at its most elemental, he made objects that linked us to the natural environment.
