Artist: Ron ROBERTSON-SWANN Birth/Death: Title: Maquette for Vault Credit Line: McClelland Gallery, Langwarrin Erected in Melbourne City Square in May 1980, Ron Robertson-Swann’s Vault is the most controversial sculpture in Australian history. After much public debate, Vault was moved in the dead of night to Batman Park. At the time the site was a muddy wasteland on the banks of the Yarra, but ironically it is now the heart of the thriving Southgate complex. The piece exhibited here is a scaled-down version of the original public sculpture. More details Click image to enlarge |
