Theme: Boom & Bust Artist: Jan SENBERGS Birth/Death: 1939 Title: Blue angel of Wittenoon Credit Line: Collection, Art Gallery of Western Australia ‘This painting came about as a result of being an artist-in-residence at the Art Gallery of Western Australia in Perth. During this time, I visited a number of the derelict asbestos mining towns of the fifties. I was taken by the beautiful landscape in a clear and vivid sky — and then seeing the abandoned structures of the mine site on the side of the outcrop, the history of the place started to emerge in front of you. It seemed like an empty and silent stage-set where you ominously sensed a tragedy had been played out sometime well before you arrived.’ Jan Senbergs, 2000 More details Click image to enlarge
