Artist: Rick AMOR Birth/Death: 1948 Title: Study for Urban destruction Credit Line: Australian War Memorial, Canberra An Australian soldier, Private Cameron Simpson, wearily inspects the empty shell of a building. It is 1999, East Timor. Rick Amor unapologetically restricts his painting Study for Urban destruction to the reverberating echo of an empty space. The Graffiti skull on the wall evokes the recent human sacrifice. In late 1999 Rick Amor was appointed an official war artist by the Australian War Memorial to record the Australian peacekeeping mission in East Timor. He witnessed at first hand the devastation of the country and Australia’s role in its reconstruction. More details Click image to enlarge |
