Artist: Stanislaus RAPOTEC Birth/Death: 1913–1997 Title: Meditating on Good Friday Credit Line: Private Collection, Courtesy Charles Nodrum Gallery Stanislaus Rapotec won the 1961 Blake Prize for Religious Art with his large abstract expressionist painting Meditating on Good Friday. The Blake Prize aims to encourage dialogue between contemporary artists and religion, yet bitter arguments followed Rapotec’s win. Meditating on Good Friday draws on the spiritual force of confrontations between light and dark, death and resurrection, sin and redemption. More details Click image to enlarge |
