Artist: Douglas ANNAND Birth/Death: 1903–1976 Title: Coin design: Two shillings, kangaroo Credit Line: Purchased 1989 National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. In 1937 Douglas Annand was commissioned to prepare new designs for Australian coins. He chose to depict easily identified Australian flora and fauna, which included sheaves of wheat, the kangaroo, the platypus, and the koala rather than themes associated with Britain.
