Sensuous, organic forms and luscious colours belie the solidity of Toots Zynsky’s glass vessels. Her pioneering explorations in this medium have resulted in her characteristic technique of filet de verre, or net of glass. Using a palette of about sixty colours, Pennellata was created from two layers of glass threads, assembled flat before being fused. The resulting circular sheet of glass is mould-slumped in the kiln before final manipulation into its fluted, undulating shape. The rippling, petal-like folds of glass allow a glimpse of the muted interior layer of colours, adding depth and mystery to the form. This delicate vessel of vibrant, luminous colours is both joyful and intriguing, an object of unfolding beauty. SE
