Showing Daniel Kruger’s interest in the powerful visual and tactile presence of tribal jewellery, this large silver neckpiece has two linked, articulated sections, each mounted with natural turquoise stones attached with tied silk thread. At once sensual and grotesque, its raw materiality and over-scaled articulated elements invite the touch and engage the eye. Kruger draws imagery from many diverse sources: found objects, fragments, printed images, texts, and recycled materials, both precious and common. Left in their found state and shape, set into precious metals or cut, reassembled, linked and threaded into jewellery, such materials are transformed by Kruger into commanding talismans that hint at the possibility of unlocking meanings at the edge of our understanding.
