Judges' Final Statement
We were impressed by the diversity, range and calibre of work presented by the 21 finalists from all over Australia and their engagement with some of the many possibilities of sculpture today. We were impressed with the extremely high standard of the work and the diversity of approach in medium, composition and interpretation. Sculpture is indeed live and well in Australia. We consider every finalist to be a winner. but nonetheless we selected one artist to receive the prize. We congratulate Lisa Roet for a highly innovative exploration of ideas. Her work is of contemporary relevance, while using a traditional sculptural medium with accomplishment. She has made a profound comment on the animal/human spirit.
