The Revd John West (1809–73) was a Congregational minister, author and newspaper editor. He wrote History of Tasmania (1852), in which he discussed the evils of the penal system and the treatment of the Tasmanian Aboriginal people. In 1854 he became editor of The Sydney Morning Herald.
