The Gallery offers an exciting range of events, workshops and other activites for young people. The program encourages young visitors to explore the collections and exhibitions in different ways and gives you the opportunity to try new art forms and develop your skills.
Summer Scholarships
Each January the Gallery offers 16 scholarships – two from each state and territory – for an intensive week of study focusing on visual arts. The scholarships offer students an insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the Gallery, training in the interpretation of works of art, access to special exhibitions and a closer acquaintance with the national collection.
Registered Unit – Artbites
Artbites provides senior students with the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive study of works of art in the national collection and gain a greater understanding of the Gallery's functions and services. The registered unit is conducted by Gallery educators working with small groups of students for eight weeks and requires commitment by the student to be self-motivated and attend weekly sessions. Successfully completed Registered Units are reported on the Year 12 Certificate and Secondary College Record. Colleges and schools are notified when the Registered Unit is being offered, or teachers can contact the Education Office for more information.
