Vietnam was an active supplier of Chinese-inspired blue and white ceramics for Southeast Asian markets, particularly those of Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. This vessel, found in south Sulawesi, Indonesia, was adapted for use as a rosewater container by the addition of a long silver neck. Rosewater was said to have been worn by the Prophet Muhammad and became an important part of Islamic ritual.
