Systematic Reflections on a Safe Future
Each insect grips a doughnut-shaped Cohndom box and is both a practical
and symbolic talisman that grants the wearer protection from unwanted sexual
advances. The highly reflective iridium-coated plutonite wings of the dragonflies
are Oakley sunglass lenses — found objects metamorphosed. The dragonflies refer
to the Art Nouveau dragonfly/woman corsage designed by French jeweller Lalique
in 1897. Originally five species and forty-five pendants were exhibited in the
1995 Melbourne exhibition.
